February 5, 2021

'Hello Blue Monday', a re-imagining of my 2007 album 'Goodbye Blue Monday' is out now exclusively on bandcamp.

This recording really came about on a whim. I did a livestream on January 18 (Blue Monday) with my ukulele and a couple drum machines. My idea was to play a few songs and talk about the making of the record, just for fun.

I recorded the audio, and when I went back to listen there was something really fun about the versions I came up with right there on the spot. I was fuelled by the energy and enthusiasm of everyone who tuned in and decided to make a record out of it, and bring you along for the ride.

I did the whole thing in about 2 weeks. I sent the (very) rough demos to my friends Phil and Petr who recorded percussion and woodwinds at their home studios. They emailed me back the tracks and I put down bass, vocals, more ukulele and some nylon string guitar. There's also a kazoo solo, which was suggested by my 4 year old.

I really just went with whatever, it was good fun. I hope you enjoy this collection. I'm releasing it exclusively on bandcamp today, Friday Feb 5, because it is 'bandcamp Friday', which means they waive their fees so all the proceeds go directly to the artist. Very nice of them.

Thank you very much for the support. Now I must sleep a little and dream about the next thing I'm going to make.

Love,
Jeremy

December 4, 2020

I wrote a song called ‘Quiet Christmas’ last week. It just sort of fell out of a small hole in my heart. We had our second baby last February, she’ll be 10 months on Saturday and almost nobody in our family has had a chance to meet her yet. I know everybody has their own story of how 2020 got weird so I thought we could sit with that together in song.

My idea was to record the song to release on Bandcamp Friday (Dec 4), a day on which they waive their fees as a gesture to help artists like me through a difficult year. Very nice of them. When I got it down it didn’t feel like enough. Could I record a whole album in less than a week? I haven’t released new music in years (more on that later). I don’t have a lot of time in my lockdown family days so I’d have about 30 hours total in which to make it. I went for it, because I needed something to focus on. Something to work toward. A little hope.

It took me until 11:59pm to finalize the track order and do a couple last minute edits and tweaks. This is the closest I’ll get to showing up on your doorstep for caroling this year. It’s a little bit nostalgic and a whole lot here and now. No bells and whistles, just me singing 2 new originals (Quiet Christmas and The Holidays Are Here) and 7 classics. Plain and simple. If you are a fan of my mellow acoustic stuff, like Jolene, Fall For Anything and Left Behind, this should be right up your alley. Quiet Christmas goes out to everybody that’s missing somebody this holiday season.

Love,
Jeremy
